Napoleon Hill was before his time. No arguing that. He looked at the world of success and translated it so that the common man could have the knowledge and do his best to attain his heart’s desire when he may not of had the means to do so before. Noble shit and I suggest you read his books as a starting point for your lifetime of learning.
Without stealing too much, I want to talk about his number 1 law of success. He held this law above all others in the attainment of what you seek. I’ve learned this law and applied it in my own life. It freaking works! Ready?
Be specific about what you want. Like REAL fucking specific. That’s it….
Bullshit you say? Think about it. Who do you think will have more success losing weight? The guy that states his goal as “I want to lose a little weight”, OR the guy that states his goal as “I am going to lose 25 lbs by March 1st by switching to a plant-based diet, limiting alcohol to 1 day per week and exercising for 1 hour per day 4 days a week”? That second guy has a MUCH better chance of success.
You feel me? The more specific you are about your goals, the better chance you give yourself for success! Why? Because things are clear cut when you get specific. There is a crystal clear LINE between failure and success and you just defined it.
When you have obscure goals with a “gray area” defining your success, you don’t really have a good idea as to what entails success and therefore won’t work as hard because you don’t know EXACTLY what you are working for. When you are specific, it’s way easy to create a plan of action because you ACTUALLY KNOW what you are going after!
When you know exactly what you are working for and have defined the boundaries between success and failure, you have a really good chance of success, but don’t get me wrong, this can be tough. You need to realize that you WILL fail at times. In-fact, if you fail a lot, you are doing it right! (That’s for another post) You should get comfortable with falling on your face and getting back up over and over again. I’ve been doing it all my life and I wish I could do it more.
I have a tough time with this, so I won’t pretend this is easy. It’s a lifelong practice. Working on this blog post was a specific thing I wanted to accomplish tonight, but it wouldn’t have been finished if my goal was “work on my website”. It is getting done because I set the goal as “I will complete my ‘#1 Law of Success’ blog post tonight come hell or bad wifi connection” because that’s what it takes.
Get out there and make a specific goal! The more specific the better. Happy trails.
